Who We Are

The classrooms and computer-lab are modern and well-equipped and there is free, unlimited Wi-Fi available to all students on site.  The student lounge is bright and comfortable with free tea and coffee and a view over Takapuna Beach

We are Category 2 School and our NZQA number is 9860.

Code of Practice

The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021 is known as ‘the Code’.  It explains all the different ways that schools must take care of / look after their students.

New Spark English Academy has signed ‘The Code’ which means we have to do everything we can to support and look after our students.

In 2025, NSEA carried out its first annual review to check that we were doing all we could do to keep our students safe and well.  The review shows that:

·       We have strategies in place that focus on student wellbeing and safety

·       We have methods for gathering information from students on what they think about their safety and wellbeing

·       We have a comprehensive recording system of all student issues and how those issues are resolved

·       No complaints were received (you can read the complaints process in the Learner handbook)

·       Our students are generally safe, happy and well

We also found that there were some areas we could do more in.  These were:

·       To provide more training to staff about cultural competence and the details of the Code

·       Do more to promote student physical and mental wellbeing

·       Work more closely with agents to increase their awareness around (prospective) student safety and wellbeing

What does the Code state that schools must do?

The Code states that schools must:

·       Keep all students safe and well

·       Have strategies and plans focussed on student safety and wellbeing

·       Make sure that they create inclusive and safe learning environments

·       Listen to students’ voices and consider students’ feedback when making plans

·       Make sure that all relevant information is given to students both before and during their studies

·       Recruit students in ways that are ethical and responsible
