Charles Hayward is an experienced Academic Manager at New Spark English Academy (NSEA), where he oversees General English classes, Test Preparation (IELTS/PTE), and the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) programmes.

With over twenty years in the education sector, he specialises in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) and Adult Literacy and Numeracy. This dual expertise allows him to support both second-language learners and English speakers who struggle with literacy in their first language. Charles effectively leverages these specialised skills in his current role.

During an eight-year tenure in Japan, he taught business professionals and learners of all ages, while also acting as a lead trainer for teachers. His New Zealand career spans roles as a teacher, trainer, and school manager, including a seat on the Senior Management team of a national organisation overseeing 23 schools. 

A strong advocate for digital education, Charles developed 'RudderLive', an award-winning Learning Management System (LMS) for the NZ Marine Industry. This expertise proved invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic when he delivered online English courses to university students in Osaka.

As a founding member of NSEA, Charles has been with the academy since its inception—joining before the classrooms even had furniture. He takes great pride in the school’s growth and was instrumental in the recent achievement of gaining NZQA approval for NZCEL Levels 4 and 5.
